Session 12: City of Dreams

Ember asks for a teleporter to take her to Latona

"Hey Ember where are you heading?"
Ceffer asks tiredly.

"Latona," Ember turns to him while she waits. "There's still a lot of work to be done tomorrow on the perma-portal, and... I'm going out to dinner with one of the natives." She smiles and blushes slightly.

Tony is too busy answering the last questions to notice.

"Must be nice to be able to form a relationship while the worlds ending."
Ceffer mutters sardonically.

She frowns at him. "The world is not about to end. Have a little faith."

"One way or another the apocalypse is coming, and millions will die. Our job is to minimize that. Enjoy your date Ms Den. and I always have faith just not in people."
Ceffer gives a fake salute.

Ember's frown deepens. "What, do you think yourself a one man show? Just because you believe an apocalypse might be on its way here at light speed, it doesn't mean millions are gonna die. Don't tell me you bought into Mr. Argo's little story."

The teleporter appears suddenly with a Bang!

Ember acknowledges the teleport and looks at Ceffer briefly. "Enjoy your evening."

They leave just as suddenly with another Bang!

Ceffer laughs.
You know she is right. Just because we have 4 months to prepare does not mean that your race will die. You need to start Delegating and trusting those around you. I am also sure she did not catch that you wished her the best. I have helped with your nightmares but we are running out of time.
Alishari Gently reminds Ceffer.
She was more on point then I like. You know that the highest cost will not be my race but everyone else in the sector. I wish we had the time to have briefed the team before Siren made his speech. So what is the plan? Are we at D maybe E?
Ceffer replies.
I know we wish they had gone public earlier, then there would have been time create a retrovirus. Give Dr. Wells all the information that we have collected thus far.
Ceffer smiles heads off to Dr Wells and some of the techs..

As he passes them, Ceffer overhears a short conversation between Pearl and one of her assistants.

"What?! No!" Pearl waves her hands excitedly at the assistant. "Tell him he can't!"

The assistant gains a desperate look on his face. "To a Colorado Senator? How am I supposed to do that?"

Pearl withers slightly and turns back to him. "Just tell him a big, fat NO! I don't care about the details, just keep that man and his paparazzi away from Wells Hills! No matter what it takes!"

"But he specifically mentioned that visitation was part of his contract. I checked up on that claim and I wouldn't have..."

Pearl hisses under her breath, then shouts, "Curse you Phillip!"

Help her. Email the plans for your suit with an encrypted email to Dr. Wells. Sounds like the the cat is about to go insane.
Ceffer sighs and has Alishari type his email while he turns to help Pearl with her problem.
"What mess did Philip Leave for you now."

Pearl growls and her assistant runs away. "Back in the good old days, Phillip and I would round up investors for Wells Hills in order to fund various projects that go on here. Studying super powers and making new tech is what most of that money went into, as well as supporting any new arrivals. We led them to believe that our little exclusive society was full of the brightest brains on the planet, and investing in us would make them rich. And it did, until now. With all the excitement lately, a good lot of the resources that used to go to the R&D department is now going to your team and doing damage control of 4S. Since Phillip left, I haven't been able to recruit any new investors. To top it all off, now our biggest and longest investor, one of our Colorado senators, wants to see this place for himself by tomorrow. I believe he's just checking on his assets, but there's no way Wells Hills can be ready for him in less than 16 hours! Maybe if I had a silver tong I could convince him to put it off, but I don't, so he's going to elbow his way through the guards if he has to and I can't take any civilized action to keep him out!" She sits down and covers her face briefly. "So what if the world knows that supers exist? Phillip knew this would happen, you know. This senator is only the first, and when he comes here and sees that Wells Hills is where we're all coming from, he's probably going to cut his losses just in case someone decides to nuke us."

Ceffer smiles.
"Let me see the contract. As smart as Mr. poopy pants is he was not a certified lawyer. Mr. Argo's specialty is working with people.  Mine is ferreting out legal loopholes. I am a certified contract lawyer. Give me 4 hours with assistance and lets us see what we can do. In the mean time Take a breath, then start preparing a Dog and pony show. Items to show holds up one finger Training facilities, holds up two fingers useful powers (Mr. Fixit, Healer, teleporters, ect)   holds up three fingers A brief tour of the lab and virtualization machine. Any one of these should be a great boon in convincing new investors. Whatever you do don't panic. You have done this on a much smaller scale before."
Ceffer bows.
"What are you're orders madam Kitty."
He then gives a smart salute.

"One order," Pearl grabs his arm, and he feels a couple of pin-pricks where claws might have been (but don't appear to be). "Never call me 'Kitty' again, or any derivative there of." She lets go of him. "Follow me."

Pearl leads Ceffer down the hill and up another slope to the Lab. They finally catch up with her assistant in a large computer lab, but he is busy on a computer an on a phone. Pearl points out two more of her assistants, both very busy. She logs into the computer at 'the big chair' and takes a moment to bring up the senator's contract.

"Knock yourself out. I wasn't in town yet when this was written, but from what I understand, this and other contracts for more prestigious investors were written by their lawyers, not Phillip. But I do believe Phillip was with them when they were written." Pearl leaves Ceffer to his studies.

The contract is very tight, accounting for nearly every thinkable situation and several that only Mr. Argo would have thought of. There is no legal way to prevent the senator from coming to Wells Hills short of a natural disaster that would physically prevent anyone from coming in or leaving, such as a deadly plague. And while the contract does give the senator explicate permission to visit under almost any conceivable circumstance, it does not define a minimum visitation period, nor does it dictate which out of a minimum of two points of interest he should be allowed to see.

Ceffer reads the contract having people look up various rules and regs.

My Roll:

Tony finds himself alone in the "War Room," so he shuts things down for the night.

*Evil laugh*
"He outsmarted himself. This is very useful. Lets not tell him until it is too late. Thank you very much Master of documentation."
Ceffer replies with a flair. Then he marches off to find Pearl.

Tony almost runs into Ceffer at the front door to the lab. "You seem in a pleasant mood for dismal times."

"Just removed the detonator from a political time bomb that Darth Argo left us."
Ceffer replies.

Ceffer sees Pearl outside. She is walking to the parking lot.

"Hey Pearl could we talk for second? Tony grab your dad please."
Ceffer waves Pearl over.

Tony finds Dr. Wells and brings him to the Lab's lobby.
